Event Details

Join well known local artist, Barbara Dawson, in this interesting workshop where you will learn about the ecological method of contact plant printing as well as indigo dyeing. In contact plant printing, plants (in this case mostly natives) will be used to create colour and imagery on a beautiful silk scarf that will be ready to take home by the end of the session. You will also experiment with plant prints on cotton and paper. Discover the magic of indigo dyeing through making your own Furoshiki wrap – a traditional Japanese method of wrapping parcels. You will be shown various methods of simple shibori (a technique that involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo) to create a delightful pattern. All materials will be supplied but you may like to bring a few scraps of silk or cotton. No experience is necessary. Please bring: apron; latex gloves (if possible); notebook. Reference notes will be emailed to you on completion of the class. Bring your own lunch, there is a kitchen for heating food. Limited places. Book today.
